My Big Fat Cabbagetown Wedding was a
major fundraiser for the Cabbagetown Youth Centre held
on Saturday April 1, 2006 in the gloriously transformed
Cabbagetown Youth Centre gymnasium at 2 Lancaster Avenue,
Toronto.
My Big Fat Cabbagetown Wedding (supported by the Old
Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area), was a ‘tongue-in-cheek’
mock wedding reception for 250 guests. Attendees, dressed
in outrageous wedding attire, a bevy of brides, grooms
in top hats & tails, bridesmaids and ushers, enjoyed
a catered cocktail reception and dance.
Wedding events included specially created Cabbagetini
cocktails, catered goodies, DJ and dancing, wedding
cake made from Tim Horton Timbits and toasts. A honeymoon
raffle featured Leafs and Raptors tickets and a grand
prize of a deluxe weekend for two in July at the Algonquin
Park Couples Resort.
Founded as the Cabbagetown Boxing Club in 1972 the Cabbagetown
Youth Centre has provided a full range of recreational,
social, and educational programs (most offered free
of charge) for the children, teens, and families living
in the Cabbagetown and St. Jamestown areas of Toronto.
To maintain its diverse and high quality programs which
provide healthy alternatives and promote improving the
quality of life for less fortunate area families, the
Cabbagetown Youth Centre relies heavily on the support
of the community in the form of financial support, volunteerism,
and donations.
